Come to CubaFor almost sixty years, Cuba has been a beacon of hope for those who believe in the dreams of its political system while for others it has been the island that got lost in a mist of oppressions and injustices. Knowledge about Cuba has been shrouded in uncertainty, contradiction, fear and bewilderment. Facile comments about the future of Cuba simplify without understanding the complexities of Cuban political history while ignoring its natural beauty and the warmth of its people. All these factors come together in distinctive ways that we invite you to explore with us. This is an invitation to a journey of discoveries, an invitation to experiencing a unique combination of multifarious facets that no other country can offer at this point in history. Join us for a life-changing adventure that will allow us to witness a society in transition, to observe untainted natural splendor, and gain understanding about a small country that has had a large impact in the contemporary history of Latin America.

Dr. Espín held the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Gender Studies at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria in 2010 Dr. Jason Platt’s Curriculum Vitae abounds with international teaching, research, presentation, and publication honors. But perhaps the most poignant catalyst to his success as an Full Professor and Program Director of the Masters in International Counseling Psychology Program in Mexico City, Mexico can be traced to his own family history. Raised with seven adopted siblings from five different countries, Dr. Platt witnessed first-hand how exploitation, violence, sanitary and health issues, and other traumatic histories can shape individual and family development. As a result, he has devoted his career to research and educational efforts to better prepare clinicians to work with diverse, underserved and impoverished communities. In addition to his work in Latin America, Dr. Platt has facilitated educational immersion programs in El Salvador, India, Cambodia, and Vietnam, and lectures widely to academic peer groups. His most recent recognition comes from the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, the flagship journal of the Couple and Family Therapy community, which named Dr. Platt’s article on Critical Patriotism the "JMFT Best Article of the Year.” Dr. Platt’s presentation of a framework that clinical training programs can use to examine nationality and expand awareness of international issues and perspectives was chosen over other articles by some of the most recognizable names in the field. |
